Return Your Vehicle
We're here to make lease-end simple.
That's why we created a handy list that includes everything you'll need to know.
Before Your Return
- Schedule your complimentary pre-inspection appointment 15 to 60 days before your maturity date by calling AutoVIN at (855) 40-MY-TFS. 1
- A pre-inspection is an evaluation of the wear and use on the vehicle to anticipate potential lease-end charges and help you decided whether to repair any of the items before returning the vehicle. Please review Wear & Use | Toyota Financial Services for additional information on Excess Wear and Use, and scheduling an inspection.
- If you choose to make repairs and/or locate any equipment that was noted as missing during the pre-inspection, please let the Dealer know when you return your vehicle so that another inspection is performed. You can also contact us at (800) 874-8822 (please let us know right away to minimize any delays).
- We recommend contacting your originating Dealer to schedule your turn-in appointment. Your originating Dealer is required to process the vehicle return.
- Most Toyota and Lexus dealerships will process a vehicle return even if they did not originate the lease. However, we recommend contacting them to confirm if they will accept your vehicle and schedule a turn-in appointment.
- If you seek to return the vehicle at a third-party dealership, this is an unauthorized third-party vehicle return.
- If you assign your purchase option to a third-party dealer, you remain responsible for all obligations under the lease agreement until we have received the payoff funds and all required documentation to process the purchase, including an Odometer Statement completed, signed, and dated by you.
- If you drop off the vehicle at a third-party dealership, we deem the vehicle to remain in your possession until the vehicle is delivered to us.
1 Available to Toyota Financial Services lease customers that do not reside in Alaska or Hawaii and whose leases did not originate in New Hampshire or Wisconsin.
During Your Inspection And Return
Bring the following to your inspection and lease-return appointments:
- Toolkit and spare tire, if applicable.
- All set of keys (master/remote/valet), if applicable
- Owner's Manuals
- Any original equipment on your vehicle at lease inception (radio, headrests, 3rd row seat, tonneau/cargo cover, etc.)
- Don't forget to complete and sign the Odometer Disclosure Statement and ask for a copy for your records (capture the name of the Dealer associate that helped with the return).
At The Dealership
- Confirm the Toyota or Lexus Dealership will accept the return, if you are not returning the vehicle to your originating Dealer (only your originating Dealer is required to accept your lease return).
- Complete, sign and date an odometer statement. Provide the completed Odometer Statement to the Dealer and ask for a copy for your records. Capture the name of the Dealer associate that helped with the return.
- If you did not complete an inspection prior to returning, one will be completed within a few days of your return. If you completed a pre-inspection and chose to make repairs and/or located any equipment that was noted as missing during the pre-inspection, please let the Dealer know so that another inspection is performed. You can also contact us at (800) 874-8822 (please let us know right away to minimize any delays).
After Return
Authorized Toyota Dealer Returns:
- To minimize any potential delays processing your lease return, you can notify us of your return by logging onto Toyotafinancial.com or your Toyota Financial Services App and follow the return your vehicle prompts. You can also notify us by telephone at (800) 874-8822 using our automated system or speaking with a live agent.
- We will send you a Lease End Invoice if you owe any unpaid payments, late fees, or miscellaneous charges, such as property taxes and parking/traffic citations. 1
- The invoice may also include any Excessive Wear and Use charges, Excessive Mileage charges, and Disposition Fee if applicable. These items may be taxable.
1 Under certain circumstances, Toyota Financial Services does not charge its lease customers for excess wear and use damage
- As an appreciation of your Loyalty with TFS, we will waive the Disposition Fee (up to $350) if you:
Replace with a New or Certified Toyota or Lexus financed or leased through a participating Toyota or Lexus dealer and TFS or LFS within 30 days before or after return. 2 Or have had three or more Toyota Financial Services or Lexus Financial Services accounts. 2 2 Delays in termination, often as a result of delayed grounding or early return with remaining payments still due, may prevent TFS/LFS from applying the waiver prior to billing. Due to statutory requirements, customers who originated in NJ may receive a bill for a disposition fee prior to the application of the waiver. Disposition fee may be waived in other circumstances.
- If you had a Security deposit, it will be returned to your home address via check. It will be used to first pay any Lease End Invoice charges, if applicable.
- Remember to cancel any automatic or future scheduled payments.
Unauthorized Third-Party Dealer Returns:
- If you do not purchase the leased vehicle, it must be returned to an authorized Toyota or Lexus dealer on or before the lease maturity date.
